Fitness App
“The Challenge“.
About
The Challenge is a web-based fitness app designed for busy individuals who still want to stay active. Offering 5-30 minute daily bodyweight workouts, users can join challenges, create custom routines, track progress, and participate in live events. The app’s leveling system and community features help keep users motivated.
My Role
I was responsible for the full UX/UI design process, including user research, usability testing, and the creation of low- and high-fidelity prototypes. The focus was on creating an intuitive user experience while ensuring a motivating, goal-oriented design.

The Challenge
"I don’t have time for sport" – a phrase that many people often say. I’ve been there myself, struggling with motivation and time constraints. Through conversations with friends and informal surveys, I discovered that most people want to be active but simply can't fit workouts into their busy schedules.
This insight led to the creation of The Challenge, a fitness app designed to offer short, scalable workouts that fit into even the busiest lives. The goal was to make fitness more accessible and motivating, without overwhelming users.
Design Process
The project followed a Design Thinking approach, focusing on:
Empathize: Understanding user pain points around time and motivation.
Define: Framing the problem through user stories.
Ideate: Developing solutions centered around short challenges and gamification.
Prototype: Creating wireframes to explore user flows and interface design.
Test: Conducting usability testing to refine the design.
User Insights
Through user research, I identified the key barriers:
Time: Users need quick workouts that fit into their schedules.
Motivation: Users need a way to stay engaged and track progress.
Community: Social features can make workouts more enjoyable and encourage participation.
Based on these insights, I prioritized features like customizable challenges, a leveling system, and progress tracking.
Key Features
Join fitness challenges (1–3 weeks, varying difficulty)
Create custom workout sessions
Level system with unlockable workouts
Track progress and view performance history
Participate in live fitness events
Connect with the community and share achievements
Prototyping & Testing
I started with low-fidelity wireframes and prototypes, iterating based on early feedback. During usability testing, key findings showed that users struggled with the dashboard layout and information hierarchy. These issues were resolved through several iterations.
Usability Test #1:
4/7 correctly interpreted the start screen
5/7 completed a challenge successfully
7/7 joined a live event
High-Fidelity Design:
The final design featured a bold, dynamic aesthetic, with a strong sports-inspired color palette and clear typography. This helped communicate intensity and motivation, while the interface design emphasized simplicity and usability.
Gamification & Motivation
Level System: Users earn points for completing challenges, unlocking new workouts and rewards to keep them motivated.
Community: Users can share their progress, join events, and support others, creating a sense of belonging.
Final Usability Test
The high-fidelity prototype was tested remotely with 5 new users. The results confirmed improvements in usability:
4/5 understood the start screen
5/5 completed a challenge
5/5 joined a live event
Minor revisions were made based on final feedback, including improving the sign-up flow and adding motivational copy.
Conclusion
The Challenge addresses the real issue of time and motivation with short, accessible workouts and a gamified system to keep users engaged. The app helps users stay active daily, even if it’s only for five minutes.
Feedback showed that the app is:
Easy to use
Motivating and flexible
Clear in its structure
This project successfully turned a personal passion for fitness into a solution that encourages users to stay active, no matter how busy life gets.
